Nike says it will open its first Canada store in Winnipeg

AUSTIN, Texas — Nike said Wednesday it will be opening its first Canadian store in the city of Winnipeg, which has long been a popular destination for international customers.

The company said the store will open to the public this fall.

“We’re very excited about the Winnipeg opening, which will be our first Canadian outlet in Canada,” said Jeff Lefferts, senior vice president of Nike’s global brands, in a statement.

“We look forward to welcoming our Canadian employees to Winnipeg and welcoming new customers into our global network of locations.”

Nike Canada operates nearly 40 stores in the United States, including a large outdoor showroom in Winnipeg.

It will also begin accepting debit cards at its Winnipeg location.

The announcement comes as the U.S. is grappling with the fallout from the deadly terrorist attacks in Paris and Brussels last year.
